Business Secretary Vince Cable 'vindicated' over BSkyB

Business Secretary Vince Cable has said he feels ‘vindicated’ in the way he dealt with the BSkyB takeover bid.

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt

Speaking to the ‘Murnaghan’ programme on Sky News he said: “Well I certainly do feel vindicated and I certainly dealt with it in an entirely proper and fair way”.
Vince Cable was stripped of his power to decide if News Corporation could take control of BSkyB after ‘declaring war’ on News Corp. He was caught in a sting by journalists from the Daily Telegraph in 2010. Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt was then given the job of deciding, but the phone-hacking scandal prompted News Corp to drop the bid.

Well I certainly do feel vindicated and I certainly dealt with it in an entirely proper and fair way but the overall approach of the government has as you know been dealt with by the Leveson Inquiry, it was set up by this government, my party was very active in pushing for the establishment of the Leveson Inquiry. – Cable speaking to Sky News

Jeremy Hunt continues to face pressure to resign after it emerged that his advisor, Adam Smith, had been in close contact with News Corp. Smith resigned the day after emails were published from the Leveson Inquiry showing regular updates of the process.
Cable would not be drawn into what should happen to Hunt. The Culture Secretary is expected to give evidence at the Leveson Inquiry soon.
