New email claims puts more pressure on Hunt
A new email has emerged today putting more pressure on Culture Secretary.
An email between Rebekah Brooks, former CEO of News International, and Frederic Michel claim that Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt wanted Michel to “advise him privately in the coming weeks and guide his and No 10’s positioning”.
Michel, the News Corporation ‘media relation’ man was in regular contact with Hunt’s advisor at the time, Adam Smith. Smith resigned last month following a cache of emails showing that information was being passed between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and News Corporation during the BSkyB takeover bid.
The email was revealed today as Rebekah Brooks was giving evidence at the Leveson Inquiry. ITV News political correspondent Lucy Manning has said her sources say Hunt “never asked for information on phone hacking”.
Jeremy Hunt is expected to give evidence to the Leveson Inquiry, although the exact timing is not known.
