CBS Axes CSI: Miami
Long running crime drama CSI: Miami has been axed by CBS.
After ten years and more than 200 episodes CSI Miami, starring David Caruso, has been dropped by CBS in a sign that the CSI franchise is beginning to lose its appeal with viewers. Mothership CSI was renewed by CBS earlier this year but the broadcaster left the of fates spin-offs CSI: NY and CSI: Miami in the air.
Consensus was that CBS would axe one of the spin-offs though the same was said last year; that one CSI series would be dropped. This year though the experts were right as CSI: NY was renewed and Miami was left dead in the water.
“[CSI Miami] leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers – led by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue — and its talented cast, led by David Caruso, for 10 outstanding seasons. Viewers around the world will continue to enjoy rebroadcasts of CSI: Miami in syndication and on key digital platforms for many years to come.” – CBS statement.
The crime drama was not the only casualty of the axe-man at CBS as Sunday evening series NYC 22, Unforgettable and Rob were ditched as widely expected.
