Dawn French and Jason Donovan to search for Jesus
Dawn French and Jason Donovan have joined Andrew Lloyd Webber to search for Jesus.
The new ITV 1 reality show, Superstar, will see the three search for a Jesus to star on stage in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Andrew Lloyd Webber, with the assistance of David Grindrod, Melanie C and Jason Donovan, have now finished the nationwide audition tour which also included vocal and performance challenges.
Lloyd Webber and Donovan and will be joined by former Vicar of Dibley actress Dawn French for the live shows which will screen this summer.
“I’m gagging to find Jesus with the help of the Good Lord. I have actually been searching for him my whole life, and I can’t believe that inside a few weeks we are going to find him. The fact that he is going to be a Rock God is a massive bonus.” – Dawn French
Jason Donovan is one of the most profile west end performers, starring as Joseph in the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the early 90s. He is mostly associated, however, with playing Scott Robinson in Neighbours in the 80s.
“We have unearthed some cracking talent so far and I’m really pleased I’ve had time to get to know the finalists as we’ve moved through the competition stages. It’s an honour to sit by Andrew on the judging panel and I can’t wait for the live shows to start” – Jason Donovan
The contest will be hosted by Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden. The winner’s prize will be the leading role in a new arena tour of the legendary Jesus Christ Superstar which will open at London’s O2 arena on 21st September.
How very BBC.
But will he be using age old music with new words this time?
ITV searching for real talent? Oxymoron anyone?
