Cate Blanchett To Star In Lesbian Film

Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett is to star in a new film based on a 1950s lesbian romance story.

The actress is to star in Carol; an adaptation of The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith. The Lesbian romance novel is set in 1950s New York and was originally published under a pen-name. Carol, the film version of the book, is a love story about “betrayal and passion” between two “very different women”.

Patricia Highsmith was also the writer of The Talented Mr. Ripley which was adapted for a film starring Jude Law, Cate Blanchett, Jack Davenport, Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon in 1999.

The film adaptation of The Price of Salt is being written by Phyllis Nagy and will also star Mia Wasikowska. John Crowley will direct the film which will begin production in 2013 in New York and London.
