Former advisor Adam Smith to give evidence at Leveson
Former advisor to Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt is to give evidence at the Leveson Inquiry.
Adam Smith resigned in April following a cache of emails released showing a large amount of communications between himself and News Corporation’s Frederic Michel, who is head of public affairs at the company.
The emails showed that while News Corp’s takeover bid for BSkyB was being looked at, Smith and Michel were exchanging emails on the process of the bid. They also contained information on a speech that Hunt was going to deliver to Parliament regarding the bid, days before he did.
Labour continue to put pressure on Hunt to resign as they claim he has broken the ministerial code for failing to oversee Smith’s activities at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Lord Leveson said last week that it is not his job to rule on who has broken the code, despite Prime Minister David Cameron insisting on using the inquiry to determine if Hunt has broken any rules.
Frederic Michel will also give evidence to the Leveson Inquiry on the same day, Thursday 24th May.
