The CW Reveals Schedule For New Season
The CW has revealed its schedule for the fall season with only The Vampire Diaries remaining in its current slot. Otherwise its all change though Gossip Girl remains on the same time it moves to a new time-slot.
On Monday night’s teen drama 90210, a revival of the hit 1900s series Beverley Hills 90210, moves into the 8pm slot followed by the sixth and final season of Gossip Girl. Yesterday it was hinted the sixth season may run longer than 11 episodes which were previously thought to have been commissioned. However, producer Josh Schwartz stated he felt 11 episodes was about right for the final season. In January 2013 Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries starring AnnaSophia Robb and Freema Agyeman will premier in Gossip Girl’s 9pm slot.
On Tuesday’s Hart of Dixie will return for a second season in its new slot of 8pm followed by new medical drama Emily Owens M.D starring Mamie Gummer. Despite its medical genre the show will feel a lot more like The CW’s typical fare as the description reads “starring Mamie Gummer as a surgical intern who discovers, much to her dismay, that working in a hospital feels an awful lot like high school.”
On Wednesday’s new drama Arrow, starring Stephen Amell, will air at 8pm. Based on the DC Comic character Arrow is widely seen as the successor to the hugely popular Smallville which ran for 10 seasons on The CW. Arrow will be followed by Supernatural, moving from its Friday evening slot, back for its 8th season with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. The 8th season will see new showrunner Jeremy Carver make his mark taking over from Sera Gamble.
On Thursday evenings The Vampire Diaries remains in its current 8pm slot – the only show to do so. The resident of Mystic Falls will return for a fourth season as they once again battle various supernatural nasties as well as their hormones and various love triangles. Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham have all been nominated in this year’s Teen Choice Awards. At 9pm – as we predicted – The CW’s re-working of Beauty and the Beast, starring Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan, will air. The drama occupies the slot which belonged to The Secret Circle which was ditched by The CW in a decision that surprised many.
Friday evening’s will see America’s Next Top Model move to the 8pm slot followed by Maggie Q drama Nikita. New drama Cult, starring Vampire Diaries Matt Davis, will premier midseason at some point though details are yet unknown. Cult is from producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage who are also behind Gossip Girl and The Carrie Diaries.
