Ceefax founding editor has died

Founding editor of Ceefax has died aged 85.
Colin McIntyre died in hospital on Thursday after a short illness, the BBC said. He had been employed by the corporation for more than 30 years and was pivotal to the launch of the world’s first teletext service in 1974 – Ceefax.
He began his career at the BBC in 1952 and was briefly a correspondent based at the United Nations headquarters. BBC engineers developed the text based service to provide subtitles on television. The BBC say that at one stage he had the country’s only Ceefax-enabled television in his home.

His death comes just months before Ceefax comes to an end when the digital switchover is complete.
