Legislation not Consultation says MP on Same-Sex Marriage

Caroline Lucas is the latest MP to show support for same-sex marriage, and the first party leader to record an Out4Marriage video.

This week saw two MPs add their voice to the campaign with first Labour’s European parliament member Peter Cashman suggesting the equality should be universal with as well as gay marriage straight partners being accessible to chose civil partnerships which is currently only available to gay and lesbian couples.

MP for Brighton Pavilion, Caroline Lucas, a day later added her own endorsement to gay weddings becoming legal by recording a video showing her support. The Green Party leader is just one of a number of high profile names to produce content for the Out4Marriage campaign.

“It’s interesting that in a number of other countries like Iceland, Argentina and South Africa same sex marriage is already legal and there’s huge support for it in public opinion here in the UK… The Green party has always supported LGBT equality and we’ve always supported equal marriage… That’s why we believe we don’t need more consultation. We need more legislation to enshrine equal rights and equal marriage into law.”
