Humperdinck's hump over 'ambush' on Panorama
Engelbert Humperdinck is said to be unhappy over an upcoming Panorama programme.
The legendary singer will be representing to the UK at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest this coming Saturday. For the first time the competition, which sees a variety of countries from Europe take part in the contest, go to Azerbaijan. The country lies on the gateway between the East and West and is viewed by some as having less than savoury ways of ruling its people.
BBC’s Panorama tomorrow investigates ‘Eurovision’s Dirty Secrets‘, looking at how the host country has been using the music event to detain and arrest people, displace civilians and interrogate its own people on voting for rival countries.
In part of the programme, Humperdinck was ‘ambushed’ while appearing at BBC Radio 2 for his thoughts on what is going on in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. The Sunday Telegraph has seen an email between his agent and Panorama reporter, Paul Kenyon.
“I wanted to drop you an email and just make very clear how surprised and disappointed we all were that Panorama felt it appropriate to ambush Engelbert Humperdinck on BBC property in order to force a reaction from him, without even giving him the courtesy of time to frame his thoughts” – Humperdinck’s agent, Chris Hewlett
The BBC told the newspaper that they have followed all their guidelines. The programme will air tomorrow at 9.30pm on BBC One.
