Jeremy Hunt and Tony Blair to give evidence at Leveson Inquiry
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt is to give evidence next week.
The troubled culture secretary will finally get to put his version of events to the Leveson Inquiry over the BSkyB takeover bid. He has continued to face pressure to quit his job after revelations last month that his department was in constant communication with News Corporation during the bid process.
Yesterday Hunt’s former advisor Adam Smith and News Corp’s head of public affairs Fred Michel gave evidence to the inquiry. It was revealed that a memo had been sent from Hunt to Prime Minister David Cameron detailing his support for the bid for BSkyB before he was appointed to oversee the process.
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair, who was in office from 1997 – 2007 will take to the stand this coming Monday. He is the most high profile former or current politician to give evidence. It’s expected that current Prime Minister Cameron will also speak, although a date is yet to be confirmed.
Jeremy Hunt will give evidence next Thursday.
