Eurovision Song Contest Tops 7 Million Viewers
The 57th Eurovision Song Contest pulled in over 7 million viewers despite the hot weather.
The competition was held in Baku; the capital of Azerbaijan who won Eurovision last year. This year’s winner was Sweden with 372 points for Loreen’s club track Euphoria. Sweden was one of the early favourites in the competition along with Italy, which came 9th, and Russia which came 2nd.
Englebert Humperdinck’s effort for the UK didn’t win many votes with Eurovision viewers with Love Will Set You Free finishing 25th out of 26 entries – but that may have more to do with Humperdinck performing first rather than political/bloc voting. According to overnight figures Eurovision 2012 was seen by 7.4 million viewers with a peak audience of 9.6 million viewers at 11pm. A decent performance for Eurovision given the hot weather the UK is currently experiencing.
Prior to Eurovision on BBC One was The Voice whose ratings woes continued with just 4.4 million viewers tuning in – the competition will see its ratings rise though once consolidated ratings are released.
