Richard Wallace and Tina Weaver Made Redundant From Mirror Papers

Richard Wallace and Tina Weaver have been made redundant  as editors of The Mirror and Sunday Mirror respectively.

The two papers will be merged into one edition as Trinity Mirror plans to make the tabloid newspaper a seven-day publication. The duo are leaving the company “with immediate effect”. Lloyd Embley, editor of Sunday tabloid The People, will oversee The Mirror and its Sunday counterpart in the meanwhile. However, Trinity Mirror does plan to hire two new editors to replace the departed Wallace and Weaver.

Trinity Mirror, the publishers of the tabloid, said the decision to move to Sunday-day publishing was a “further step towards creating one of the most technologically advanced and operationally efficient newsrooms in Europe”. BBC News reports the publishers also plan to launch new e-editions of the papers for tablet computers.

The Mirror‘s long-standing rival The Sun moved to a Sunday-day publishing format earlier this year when it launched the Sun on Sunday; the long awaited replacement for the News of the World. There are reports that other newspaper publishers plan to follow suit in an effort to cut costs at a time of declining newspaper circulation figures.
