The Muppets come to Blu-ray and DVD

Everyone’s favourite award winning frog is coming to Blu-ray and DVD next month as the latest Muppets success from the big screen is released by Disney Home Entertainment.

Miss Piggy is clearly excited by the news, “Now you can watch moi whenever you want! Ooh! Lucky vous!” She said while powdering her snout.

Kermit, Miss. Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal and the gang are joined by Jason Segel and Amy Adams, along with a most sensational inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational list of guest stars including Jack Black, Whoopi Goldberg and Emily Blunt. The story follows Kermit the Frog as he, via this musical Muppet-extravaganza, tries to reunite his friends to save the Muppet Studios from destruction.

“Blu-ray is a great way to bring the Muppets into your home without having to worry about cleaning up after us,” said Kermit the Frog, “And the behind-the-scenes extras are a revealing tell-all look at what it took to bring our movie to the big screen. It’s a must-see for fans of bloopers, flubs and slip-ups – which pretty much describes our act.”

With the Muppets’ signature irreverent comedy, Oscar winning songs and dancing, Muppet fans of all ages will cheer as the gang reunites to put on a benefit show to save the crumbling Muppet Studios from being demolished by nefarious oil baron Tex Richman played by Chris Cooper.

The Muppet Show started life in the UK when creator Jim Henson found it impossible to get his prime-time puppet show on American television. US executives suggested that, like associated programme Sesame Street, it would just appeal to children and would only be acceptable for a youth slot. Lord Lew Grade of ATV Network however saw the potential of a prime-time family aimed variety format and the Muppets arrived at ATV Elstree (now the home of soap EastEnders) to create a series which ran for five seasons and over 120 editions between 1976 and 1981.

Set in the The Benny Vandergast Memorial Theatre the show made famous characters which continue to entertain to this day, now part of the Disney empire. (pictured right, Lew Grade (left) with Jim Henson (middle) at the final recording of The Muppet Show at ATV Elstree.)

Characters from the TV series who star in the latest outing in The Muppets include Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Scooter and hecklers Statler and Waldorf. There is also the introduction of new Muppet Walter.

The Oscar® winning movie, and box-office hit, The Muppets, is out on Blu-ray and DVD from 11th June.
