Neil Cross To Write Doctor Who Episode

Luther creator Neil Cross has been confirmed as a writer for the seventh series of Doctor Who.

Cross’ episode will air in 2013 on BBC One and is currently being filmed in Cardiff with Jamie Payne directing the instalment. The episode will feature the new companion as played by Jenna-Louise Coleman – the companion’s name has yet to be revealed. Producers are keen to keep details of the new companion under wraps for as long as possible.

Neil Cross created BBC One’s popular thriller series Luther which stars Idris Elba. The writer also served as the head-writer on BBC One spy drama Spooks between 2006 and 2008. It was recently announced he was developing a new 10-part pirate series Crossbones for NBC. The drama is adapted from Colin Woodward’s novel The Republic of Pirates and will feature the legendary pirate Blackbeard – arguably one of the most famous pirates.

Mark Gatiss has confirmed rumours he will be penning an episode for the seventh series of Doctor Who – his episode will also air in 2013 and feature Coleman’s new companion. However, Gatiss told news website Digital Spy he could not reveal any details of his episode. Steve Thompson has reportedly confirmed he is writing an episode while John Fay and Tom MacRae are still rumoured as penning episodes for the new series.
