Starz Drama Spartacus To End

The next season of historical drama Spartacus will be its last according to reports.

Entertainment Weekly are reporting that the next season of Roman based drama Spartacus will be its last. The news is hardly surprising given the nature of the series it always had a limited shelf-life and would not run forever especially given the astonishing rate it kills of cast members! The title for the forthcoming third and final season has also been revealed; War of the Damned.

So far there have been two full seasons of Spartacus and one prequel mini-series. The first series titled Blood and Sands aired in 2010 and was originally intended to be followed by a second. However, production on the second was delayed and broadcasters Starz ordered the prequel mini-series Gods of the Arena in the stop-gap. The second season of Spartacus then followed earlier this year titled Vengeance it reached its bloody conclusion – in which several key cast members such as Lucy Lawless were killed off – in March.

Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight has promised the final season will be spectacular. Entertainment Weekly quote DeKnight as saying ” This season is bigger than anything we’ve attempted. The scope and scale is just amazing. We’re dealing with massive battles between thousands of people. We hope to leave people feel satisfied.”

Spartacus has the drama and sex of Rome and The Tudors but stylistically it looks like the film 300. The drama makes heavy use of green-screen technology and has quickly become known for its graphic and gory fight scenes, copious amounts of sex and very strong language and has quickly built up a very loyal fan base.
