ATV Reports: David Cameron To Appear At Leveson Inquiry Today

David Cameron, the Prime Minister, is to appear before the Leveson Inquiry today.

Cameron can expect a full day of questioning over a several subjects such as his close relationship with those within Rupert Murdoch’s media empire – such as Rebekah Brooks. Cameron’s appointment of Andy Coulson as his communications chief is also likely to be examined and his decision to hand the BSkyB bid decision over to Jeremy Hunt who was a well known supporter of News International.

In particular the Leveson Inquiry may question about the contact he had with Rebekah Brooks during the BSkyB bid period and in general. When Brooks appeared before the Inquiry she revealed she had exchanged text messages with Cameron roughly once a week when he was leader of the Opposition and he would sign the texts with “LOL” believing it to mean ‘lots of love’ instead of ‘laugh out loud’.

Yesterday Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg appeared before the inquiry as did Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond. Earlier in the week Labour leader Ed Miliband, Harriet Harmon, Chancellor George Osborne and former Prime Ministers Gordon Brown and Sir John Major all gave evidence to the Leveson Inquiry. In his evidence Gordon Brown denied calling Rupert Murdoch to declare war on News International after The Sun switched its support to the Conservative Party.

Sir John Major meanwhile revealed that in 1997 Murdoch had warned him to he would switch his support to Labour if certain government policies were not changed.
