Savannah Guthrie named co-anchor of 'Today'

Savannah Guthrie has been officially announced as the co-anchor of ‘Today’.

Currently presenter of the third hour and chief legal analysts for the show, she will take up her new role on Monday 9th July.
The news comes after weeks of speculation as to what NBC had planned for Ann Curry who confirmed the worst kept secret in television on Thursday that she would be leaving the show with immediate effect.
Ann tearfully announced live on the show that Thursday’s edition would be her last after a year in the top job. It is widely thought that producers have blamed her for the fall in ratings.
Guthrie will join Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Natalie Morales as part of the morning team. It’s not yet known who will replace her on the third hour of the show.

“She has a one-of-a-kind combination of sharp wit and approachability, and our viewers value her journalistic skills and legal background just as much as her humor and charm.” – Jim Bell, Today executive producer

Before joining Today in 2011, Guthrie served as White House correspondent for NBC News and has filled in on Nightly News and Today when main anchors have been away.
