Sam Faiers and Joey Essex to launch new reality series?

According to newspaper speculation the stars of The Only Way Is Essex are hoping to have more luck than their former TOWIE star Amy Childs, who found going it alone in a rival reality show lasted only one series.

Sam Faiers and Joey Essex (pictured) are, The Sun reports, planning to launch their own television series following the success of the ITV2 ‘reality drama’.

A source told the paper, following the boys having a production meeting at the W Hotel in London, that “Sam and Joey were talking about how they were going to do their own spin-off show… Joey said he thought Sam would be perfect starring in her own show, and that people would finally get to see her funny side.”

The pair apparently, unlike Childs who defected to Channel 5, want the show to air on ITV2 alongside TOWIE. The most recent “star” from the series to launch a spin-off show is Mark Wright who’s show Hollywood Nights began last week.

The Mirror’s telly critic  has given the latest show a scathing review.

“I like “fake Reality” TV shows like TOWIE and Made In Chelsea because I see them as exercises in humiliation.” States Jim Shelly, adding, “But programmes like Mark Wright’s Hollywood Nights that try to make morons like Wright, Spencer Matthews or Alex Reid famous are an insult to our intelligence.”

“The idea that a talentless plank like Mark Wright has “an entourage” would be comical if it wasn’t so tragic.” He continues, adding “Wright goes everywhere with his ”business manager”, “minder”, “driver” and his clueless cousin Tommy – all permanently pandering to his ego.”

How long can the TV ratings goldmine that is attractive but talentless people ‘acting’ in ‘reality’ series go on? Time will tell, and can ITV2 cope with another TOWIE spin-off? It’s likely, it after all as long as it has an audience ITV will milk it dry.

The management for Joey Essex said there was no plans for a series as yet.
