Solid Ratings For Premier Of New HBO Drama Newsroom

Ratings hit for HBO.

The premier of HBO’s new journalist based drama Newsroom attracted solid ratings on Sunday evening.

The new drama series is written by Aaron Sorkin and stars Jeff Daniels. The season one premier aired on Sunday evening on HBO and was seen by 2.1 million viewers in its first airing. A combined audience of 2.7 million viewers watched the episode when encore viewings are taken into account.

Newsroom was slightly below Game of Thrones premier last year which had 2.2 million viewers. Newsroom is the latest journalist themed drama with another being BBC Two/BBC America’s The Hour which is based in a 1950s newsroom at the BBC – the first series covered the Suez Canal crisis. The second series of The Hour is expected to cover, amongst other things, the Notting Hill riots.
