Ice Road Truckers to stay with Channel 5

The icy adventures of the Ice Road Truckers and its spin off, IRT: Deadliest Roads will continue to be broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK following a deal announced today.

The network has secured the exclusive free to air rights of the series which is currently in its sixth season. The documentary is described as a thrilling programme which follows several truckers as they brave the most fearsome and treacherous roads in Alaska and Canada in a race to see who will crack first – the rig drivers, or the road. Facing life and death with every turn, the Ice Road Truckers stretch their skills and nerves to the limit.

Kelly Hornsby, Acquisitions Executive at Channel 5 commented, “With the huge continued success of both Ice Road Truckers and Deadliest Roads, we are delighted to have acquired a life of series deal of each. Ice Road Truckers will form a part of the schedule for years to come.”

IRT: Deadliest Roads: Season 2 takes the journey one step further; having cut their teeth on the toughest terrain in the world, six truckers are sent to South America to haul cargo along dangerous and narrow roads, notorious for their extreme hazards.

The series will continue to initially air premiere episodes on the History channel before editions are screened on the terrestrial network. Twelve new episodes for the sixth season of Ice Road Truckers will air in 2013 on Channel 5 with Deadliest Roads airing for thirteen editions, beginning this Friday (29th June) at 8.00pm.
