Neve McIntosh Denies Doctor Who Return Rumours

Neve McIntosh has denied tabloid reports that she is set to return to Doctor Who.

Tabloid newspaper the Daily Star recently claimed the actress would reprise her role of the Victorian Silurian Madame Vastra in the forthcoming seventh season of Doctor Who. The character was previously seen in the season six episode A Good Man Goes To War and was well received by fans.

The newspaper claimed that Steven Moffat, the sci-fi’s showrunner, was planning to bring back Madame Vastra as part of a lesbian storyline involving the new companion played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. A ‘source’ reportedly told the tabloid “Steven Moffat loves to shake up the show. What better way than a lesbian storyline”

Neve McIntosh has taken to Twitter to deny the story in the Daily Star. The actress wrote “Just to say I have no idea WHAT the Star is talking about! No-one’s asked me…”. However, the actress didn’t rule out a return to Doctor Who in the future as when asked of a possible return for Madame Vastra she replied “I wish… Still thinking up plot lines to pitch to mr Moffat” McIntosh later restated her claim the Star‘s story was fake when some fans suggested not everyone would believe her denial “I know cos even if it’s true I can’t say! But really we’re talking about the daily star….”

Steven Moffat has stated that he is keen to revisit the character of Madame Vastra and her maidservant Jenny (Catrin Stewart) so a return further down the line is entirely possible if not likely. Neve McIntosh previously played two Silurian characters, sisters, in the 2010 two-part adventure The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood.

Earlier this month the Daily Star claimed the Ice Warriors would return to Doctor Who next year, for the 50th anniversary, and would be one of the first monsters encountered by Jenna-Louise Coleman’s new companion. It has since been claimed that the Zygons are also set to return while the Yeti are other original series monsters tipped for returning during the seventh season.

Yesterday the title of the first episode of season seven was revealed; Asylum of the Daleks.
