Ann Curry announces 'Today' departure

Ann Curry ended speculation this morning by announcing today would be her last show as co-anchor.
After one year as co-host of NBC’s Today Show, Ann Curry will take up another role within NBC News following months of speculation about her position on the breakfast programme.
At 8.50am this morning she was joined by Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Natalie Morales on the sofa where she tearfully announced she would be leaving as co-anchor.

“Today is going to be my last morning as a regular co-host of Today, I will still be a part of the Today show family, but I’m going to have a new title and a new role.”  – Curry’s opening statement

It is thought that network executives see her as the problem as to why the long rated top morning show has began to decline, even being beaten by rival ABC’s Good Morning America.
In her new role she will work on features and file reports across NBC News programmes including Today and Nightly News.  She became emotional as her colleagues praised her work over the years.

Fellow presenter Savannah Guthrie is tipped to take over as co-host.
