Jessie J: Voice UK Tour Axe A Good Thing

Jessie J has claimed the axing of The Voice UK’s tour is a good thing as it will allow the acts to “spread their wings”.

It all started so well for The Voice on BBC One with audiences and more importantly more viewers during the period it clashed with ITV‘s Britain’s Got Talent. But once the ‘blind auditions’ were over the audiences lost interest and ratings began to fall and fall and fall.

The singing competition recently faced another blow when its planned tour around the UK was scrapped because of low ticket sales. However, Voice coach Jessie J is trying to look on the bright side of things and has claimed the axe may not be a bad thing after all.

“Personally, maybe I shouldn’t say this but I will, I actually think it’s a good thing. Not that it’s been cancelled but that they’ve now got the opportunity to go out and do their own thing. For me it’s a bit too similar to other TV shows to do that tour thing. I think actually the artists have the opportunity now to do gigs around London and really learn their craft. Going on tour can put you in a bubble too early on. It’s now a chance for them to spread their wings.” – Jessie J speaking to BBC’s Newsbeat

The Voice will return to BBC One next year for a second series and will likely undergo some changes in response to criticisms leveled at the first outing. Whether the line-up of coaches – the show doesn’t like the term judges – remains the same is yet to be revealed. There are conflicting reports in the tabloids about who will return next year and who will be replaced.
