Cheryl Taylor Appointed New Controller Of CBBC

Cheryl Taylor has been appointed the new controller of CBBC – the corporation’s digital channel for children. Taylor is currently the BBC‘s controller for comedy commissions having overseen hits such as Not Going Out, Miranda and the award-winning Mrs Brown’s Boys.

Cheryl Taylor has been appointed as the new Controller of CBBC – the BBC’s children’s channel for 6-12 year olds. Cheryl is currently the BBC’s Controller for Comedy Commissioning and has championed hit series including Not Going Out, Miranda, Rev, Twenty Twelve, Outnumbered, Watson And Oliver, Mrs Brown’s Boys and White Van Man.

Cheryl, who is already based in Salford, was the first genre controller to be located outside London when she was appointed in 2009. Prior to this Cheryl was BBC Executive Editor, Out of London Comedy Commissioning, for four years where she developed and commissioned original comedy from the Nations and Regions including The Old Guys, Life Of Riley, Sunshine and Wallace And Gromit – A Matter Of Loaf And Death, as well as overseeing Gavin And Stacey and The Royle Family.

Before joining the BBC Cheryl was Head of Comedy at Hat Trick Productions. She began her commissioning career at Channel 4 where she was responsible for Spaced, Black Books and The World Of Derren Brown amongst others.

Cheryl was brought up in Liverpool and currently lives with her family in West Yorkshire. CBBC is the BBC’s multiplatform offering for 6-12 year olds, bringing the very best British-made drama, entertainment and factual programmes to its young viewers. CBBC is the most-loved and most-watched channel of children in its target age group and nearly 40% of children in the UK tune in to the CBBC channel every week.
