ITV has commissioned what it describes as a ‘contemporary family drama’ The Town which will feature, Julia McKenzie and Martin Clunes, both who have starred in high profile roles in other dramas for the network in recent times with Miss Marple and Doc Martin.
The latest production comes from Big Talk, the company behind television series such as BBC Two’s comedy Rev and sitcom Friday Night Dinner for Channel 4.
“At the heart of The Town will be a family struggling to come to terms with change. It’s also our hope to paint a picture of contemporary Britain through the magnifying glass of an ordinary market town.” Said Kenton Allen, CEO of Big Talk.
The three episode mini-series will air in hour-long installments and will also feature Andrew Scott, Charlotte Riley, Gerard Kearns and Kelly Adams in its cast.
The story follows a man who returns to the town he grew up in after 10 years and is soon drawn into the life he left behind.
The miniseries has been written by playwright Mike Bartlett and is his first venture into television drama. The Town is also Big Talk Productions first venture into serious dramatics having had a long programming history in comedy, sitcom and comedy-drama. The overseas rights have been obtained by BBC Worldwide.
