The actor played the 10th Doctor between 2005 and 2010 and was hugely popular in the role. Since leaving Doctor Who in 2010 Tennant has enjoyed a number of different roles such as BBC One drama Single Father, narrating BBC comedy Twenty Twelve and Sky comedy This Is Jinsy. While some actors leave Doctor Who and end up being typecast David Tennant insists he hasn’t been.

“Mercifully, I haven’t been typecast and it opened more doors than it closed.” – David Tennant in the Radio Times.

In the new interview with the Radio Times Tennant said he wanted to leave Doctor Who before “it became a job” and said he was “never bored” playing the Doctor. The actor also praised his successor in the role saying Matt Smith “is brilliant in the part” and the series was “still thriving”. Tennant will next be seen in BBC One’s new drama series True Love which also stars his former Doctor Who co-star Billie Piper alongside David Morrissey, Jane Horrocks, Ashley Walters and Lacey Turner.

This week’s ATV Today poll is on which former Doctor you’d like to see return to Doctor Who for its 50th anniversary. David Tennant is currently winning but there’s still time to vote for other Doctors such as Tom Baker or Paul McGann. The poll is located on the right-side of our website between the Recent Stories & Recent Comments box.
