'GMA' anchor Robin Roberts announce illness live on air

Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts announces new health battle.
An emotional Roberts, who beat cancer five years ago, announced publicly that she is suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome, confirming that she is starting pre-treatment ahead of a bone marrow transplant later this year.
The 51 year old breakfast presenter was surrounded by her colleagues yesterday morning as she explained what will happen. She said she received the news on the same day they learnt that Good Morning America had beaten its rival NBC’s Today for the first time in 16 years.
Roberts recently conducted a landmark interview with US President Barack Obama who stated for the first time that he supports same-sex marriage.

First Lady Michelle Obama took to Twitter to post her support for Robin, posting:  “Barack and I have you in our prayers. We believe in you and thank you for bringing awareness and hope to others.”
