The actress played troublesome Mandy Salter in the BBC soap bowing out this week. Stapleton filmed her final scenes on EastEnders six weeks ago after it was announced the character would be written out but the door would be left open for a possible future return. On Friday the actress appeared on ITV panel show Loose Women where she discussed her exit and said she would return to EastEnders in the future if asked.

“It’s always open, so you never know – never say never. I never said last time that I would never go back. I enjoyed it so much more than I really thought I was going to. It was lovely meeting the new people and cast that I hadn’t worked with before.” – Nicola Stapleton on Loose Women

Stapleton also told the Loose Women panel she enjoyed playing the complex character of Mandy. “I don’t want to play someone who’s normal and boring – I want somebody who’s feisty and spicy. I love Mandy. She’s got layers, I think – she’s deep and she’s troubled….. It’s been a nice journey with her this time round, because it’s been a lot more explanatory. As I say, it’s had a lot more layers so I’ve really enjoyed it”

Nicola Stapleton originally played Mandy Salter in the 1990s appearing in the soap between 1992 and 1994. The character was brought back in 2011 by executive producer Bryan Kirkwood who has since stepped down from his role. Mandy’s return to Albert Square proved popular with some fans who will be hoping the character will return in the near future.
