The Fades Axed Due To Being Human Renewal

The Fades creator Jack Thorne has revealed the BBC Three drama was cancelled because of the renewal of fellow supernatural series Being Human.

Supernatural drama The Fades – which starred Iain de Caestecker – was cancelled after just one series on BBC Three despite decent ratings and good reviews. Budget cut-backs at BBC Three were widely seen to be responsible for the show’s demise as the channel’s drama budget was cut back meaning it had to axe some of its output.

Now Jack Thorne, who created the series, has stated he believes the BBC had to chose between Being Human and The Fades and the long-running series won. Thorne told A Younger Theatre. “When it came down to it, it was between Being Human and The Fades to be kept and they chose Being Human I can’t complain because it is a great show. It happened when there were massive cutbacks, so the drama budget was halved and they could only keep one long-running series.”

The Fades recent BAFTA win may prove to be its salvation though as Thorne admitted there “is a possibility” the show could now return though he admitted he “didn’t know what’s going to happen” regarding its future.

The drama cut backs at BBC Three may also result in Lesbian drama series Lip Service being cancelled as well.
