Operation Elveden arrest 3 over allegations of payments to public official

Officers from Operation Elveden have arrested three people this morning.

Operation Elveden is the on-going inquiry looking into allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials.
A 46-year-old male prison officer was arrested at his home address in south east London on suspicion of corruption (contrary to the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906) and on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery contrary to the Bribery Act 2010 and on suspicion of conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office (contrary to Common Law).
A 50-year-old woman was arrested at a non-residential location in KentĀ  and a 37-year-old man was arrested at his home in Morden, Surrey on the same allegations stated above. All three have been taken to separate London police stations to be questioned.
Today’s arrests relate to suspected payments to a public official and are not about seeking journalists to reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been obtained legitimately.
