Wimbledon final peaks at 16.9 million

Nearly 17 million watched as Andy Murray was beaten by Roger Federer.
Millions tuned in yesterday afternoon to witness history as Andy Murray became the first Briton to play a Wimbledon final since Bunny Austin in 1938. The average for the four-set match was 11.4 million viewers on BBC One.
The match peaked at 16.9 million as Federer took the fourth set and claimed his 7th Wimbledon title, equaling the legendary Pete Sampras.
Yesterday was a big day for sport in the UK as the F1 Grand Prix took place at Silverstone.  The British Grand Prix was relegated to BBC Two due to the tennis but managed to attract near 3.3 million viewers.
