Ofcom to investigate Big Brother complaints

Ofcom are to investigate Big Brother following complaints about three separate incidents.
Over 1,000 have complained about the three incidents, with most complaints concerning Conor McIntyre’s rant about Deana Uppal. The incident was screened on 25 June and Conor was called to the diary room where Big Brother warned him about his behavior, although no official warning was seen to be given – angering fans of the show.
The second incident relates to an alleged racist comment made by Caroline Wharram who called black housemate Adam Kelly a “ridiculous gorilla”. Big Brother gave Caroline an official warming and later apologised to Adam.
The third regards the spin-off show Bit On The Side when former contestant Victor Ebuwa used the word “retard” when talking about a housemate.
Ofcom will now investigate if any broadcasting codes have been broken by the show. Big Brother has been at the centre of several Ofcom investigations since its launch on Channel 4 in 2000. The format transitioned to Channel 5 in August last year.
