Blakes 7 Remake Being Developed In America

An American remake of the iconic British sci-fi series Blakes 7 is reportedly in development in America.

Deadline reports that independent TV studio Georgeville Television is developing the remake and is currently trying to find a home for the project. Deadline reports that Casino Royale director Martin Campbell and Heroes writer Joe Pokaski are working on the project.

Blakes 7 was created by Terry Nation for BBC One in 1978; Nation had previously created the post apocalyptic drama series Survivors and the Daleks in Doctor Who. Blakes 7 was set in a dystopian (far) future where a fascist like totalitarian regime ruled over a fast space empire.

The protagonists of the series were a small group of criminals turned freedom fighters led by Roj Blake (Gareth Thomas) in the first two seasons and later by the Avon (Paul Darrow). The central antagonist was Servalan (Jacqueline Pearce) who led the Federation forces against the rebels and was briefly President of the vast empire before being deposed in a civil war. Blakes 7 also starred Michael Keating ( the only actor to appear in all 52 episodes), Glynis Barber, Steven Pacey, Jan Chappell, Sally Knyvette and Josette Simon amongst others.

Blakes 7 memorably ended in 1981, after four seasons, with the entire regular cast seemingly killed off bar the devious and scheming Servalan who did not appear in the finale. Since the sci-fi series ended there have been numerous revival attempts with the most recent being by Sky One several years ago but the project never made it off the ground. Big Finish have recently begun releasing Blakes 7 audio dramas.
