Make or break for ITV’s Daybreak
Daybreak will unveil its new presenters next week as it bids to reclaim lost viewers.
ITV’s beleaguered breakfast show is being revamped from Monday which will see a new set, theme and presenters.
Songs of Praise host Aled Jones is teaming up with morning veteran Lorraine Kelly to host the main section of the show from 7 – 8.30am. Lorraine will continue to front her own solo show from 8.30am, the only constant face on ITV in the mornings from the days of TV-am.
News journalists Matt Barbet and Ranvir Singh will present the 6.00am hour, akin to the old GMTV Newshour. The new logo for Daybreak, which was revealed last week, appears to embrace the sun and brightness of GMTV.
Daybreak replaced GMTV in September 2010 to much criticism and a continual fall in ratings. Fans were angry at the change and the decision of ITV to hire Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles. Bosses had hoped that their on-screen partnership which captured BBC One Show viewers would have translated onto morning television.
Dan Lobb, former sports editor and temporary presenter on Daybreak, presented his final show Friday. He and Kate Garraway were named as temporary presenter late last year as bosses worked out who to hire. Kate will continue with the programme, covering for Lorraine on both shows on Fridays.
BBC Breakfast continues to have a significant lead over its rival, attracting around 1.5 million viewers, compared to Daybreak’s 700,000 average.
The new look Daybreak begins on Monday at 6.00am.
I was in total shock when I tuned in last Monday,I thought
I was on the BBC, or perhaps Stelios had taken over
Daybreak.
The two new presenters are dull and boring, and sorry to say,
but not great to look at. At six o’clock in the morning i’ts nice to
have someone attractive beaming out from your television screen
Dan Lobb fis that role, but also the orange, what’s that all about?
personally I hate the new layout, Lorraine I love, But in her own slot.
So I will be tuning out, Not to the Beeb as it is just as boring, perhaps
to Sky or elsewhere.I just feel dissapointed as I have stuck with GMTV
and Daybreak for all these years, Now I find myself at a loss in the mornings.
Dissapointed and let down Edna.
I think general feeling is its BREAK!
