Oliver Stone's Untold History of the United States to air in the UK

Sky Atlantic is to screen Showtime’s factual series The Untold History of the United States.

In a deal with FremantleMedia Enterprises the channel has secured the exclusive free and basic UK TV rights for the programme produced by Oliver Stone.

The announcement was made today by Lucy Criddle, Senior Acquisitions Manager, Sky Entertainment. “Oliver Stone is one of the visionary film makers of our generation, and with The Untold History of the United States he has created a social document of staggering breadth and interest and I can’t wait for our customers to hear his insights into the history of America.”

The Untold History of the United States is an ten episode series which will explore, in each hour long edition, the key moments in US history, from the reasons behind the Cold War, U.S. President Harry Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, and changes in America’s global role since the fall of Communism. The series will look beyond the headline events to the deeper causes and implications; exploring how events from the past still have resonant themes for the present day.

Oliver Stone adds, “From the outset I’ve looked at this project as a legacy to my children, and a way to understand the times I’ve lived through. I hope it can contribute to a more global insight into our American history.”

Oliver’s acclaimed films include Platoon, Nixon, Born on the Fourth of July and JFK. He both directs and narrates the ten-part series, which he has been working on for over four years.
