Goodyear: No more Bet

Julie Goodyear has ruled out a return to Coronation Street.

Goodyear played iconic barmaid and landlady Bet Lynch in the show for over 25 years from 1970 until 1995, before making several brief returns between 2001 and 2003.

“I’ll never play her on screen again. I’m in a position where I’ve worked hard so I can pick and choose what I do. I don’t want a return to the spotlight. Fans ask me about Bet every day but I want to leave my legacy as it is. With quantity you lose quality. And I’m a perfectionist.

Goodyear, who finished in seventh place in this year’s Summer Celebrity Big Brother, added that she always has time for fans of the soap and her character.
