Former Journalist Rich Peppiatt talks tabloid trash in new show

Following his sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, the former Daily Star hack is bringing his controversial assault on the Street of Shame’s finest to the industry’s heartland – leaving the likes of Kelvin MacKenzie exposed in more ways than one.

Since his withering resignation letter to Daily Star proprietor Richard Desmond became a viral sensation last year, Rich has had the dubious honour of appearing twice before the Leveson Inquiry into press ethics, with his searing testimonies making headlines across the globe. Now a writer, broadcaster and campaigner for press reform, this is his debut comedy show.

Organisers say the audience can get the inside scoop as red-top renegade Peppiatt delivers a merciless dissection of his former trade, testing the public’s right to know to its side-splitting extremity… against the tabloid bully boys themselves.

Recent public outrage over the News of the World hacking into a teenage murder victim and lesser so b-list celebrities’ voice mails lead to its downfall. But tabloid trash is nothing new. Numerous incidents have happened over the years, including one paper hounding a former EastEnders star over alleged drug abuse and his sexuality until he committed suicide, another ‘Enders actor had a reporter pose as a midwife in order to get the ‘first’ photo of his newborn, a camera was hidden in a dying rockstar’s loo while another reporter pretended to be a doctor to try and gage information on a seriously ill chat show host, and without getting any inside information decided to make up the personality was dying of HIV instead – which he wasn’t, to list only a few.
