Former Hollyoaks’ Emma Rigby runs for Save the Children

Actress Emma Rigby is supporting and participating in Save the Children’s World Marathon Challenge.

At a recent training session at Willesden’s track academy where the flagship event is taking place, Emma said,

“The statistics are horrible. Right now, in 2012 there are 300 children dying every hour of every day because they don’t have the right kind of food to eat. We can stop it, we can do something about it. On World Food Day I am going to join Save the Children and thousands of children all over the world who are running the World Marathon Challenge to say this is unacceptable and to raise awareness of the thousands of children who are dying needlessly every year

The World Marathon Challenge is for 11-13 year olds all over the world. Over 20,000 children from over 40 countries will compete against each other in a relay event, aiming to smash the current marathon world record. Emma will start the race at Willesden Sports Centre, London and will be appearing alongside double Olympic medallist Christine Ohuruogu

Emma, famed for her roles in Prisoners’ Wives and Hollyoaks has recently returned from Morocco where she has been filming a new film with Ben Kingsley and Olivier Martinez, due for release end of 2013.

The event takes place on the 16th October.
