More4 secures Nashville rights

More4 has secured the rights to air new US drama Nashville in the UK.

Nashville stars Connie Britton and Hayden Pannettiere and debuts on ABC in the US tonight.

The series – devised by Oscar winning writer Callie Khouri – sees Britton play a fading country singer while Pannettiere plays an up and coming singer looking to take her place.

Variety reports that other UK broadcasters were interested in the rights to the show but ultimately felt its appeal was limited by the number of country songs in each episode.
