Last of the Summer Wine’s Fyfe joins Corrie

Robert Fyfe has landed a guest role on Coronation Street taking on the role of a lollipop man.

The Last of the Summer Wine star will be involved in a short storyline with Dennis Tanner (Philip Lowrie).

The storyline sees Dennis become a lollipop man, Fyfe’s character will train him up before bowing out of the job himself.

“It’s always a boost to get famous faces in. Robert fits the bill perfectly as a lollipop man handing over the reins,” a source told the Daily Record.

As well as his role as Howard Sibshaw in the genteel BBC One comedy between 1984-2010, Fyfe has also had appearances in Misfits, Monarch of the Glen and Z-Cars, and has starred in movies including Around the World in 80 Days and The 51st State.

The character of Dennis Tanner, an original of Coronation Street 1960 vintage, returned to the cobbles when Philip Lowrie reprised the role recently. Dennis is the son of legendary Elsie who was played by soap siren Patricia Phoniex from 1960 to 1984.

“Dennis is aged 70 and no doubt the writers will have a laugh as they set about him settling into his new job.” a source told the Daily Record.
