4Funnies to showcase comedy

4Funnies is to showcase new comedy on Channel 4 with a series of thirty minute pilots. The one-off specials will provide an opportunity to talent who have already made a mark within the industry and if popular may become regular series on the network.
All of the titterlating talents behind the pilots have emerged through Channel4’s Comedy Blaps, which is the online comedy talent initiative.

Acting Head of Comedy Nerys Evans said: “We’ve supported these stars of tomorrow as early as possible in their careers and given a crucial platform to bring them to the wider attention of comedy”

RubberBandits took this year’s Edinburgh Comedy Festival by storm Channel 4 say. The RubberBandits are Blindboy Boat Club and Mr. Chrome – two Irish rappers who wear plastic bags on their heads.  This Irish musical comedy phenomenon have registered over 25 millions youtube views across the globe for their assorted radio prank calls, DIY sketches and music videos.

Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Phil Burgers is Dr Brown, a classically trained clown and mime artist, who brings his inimitable brand of humour to the small screen, making the ordinary absurd while Brian Gittins stars David Earl as a cab driver in a small town. He spends his nights trying to connect with the world through his passengers, his daughter Lucy at University, and through the radio mic on hisdashboard where he can wile away the hours chatting with the controller, Cheryl.

The final and forth episode in this run is Uncle which stars comedian Nick Helm as an out-of work musician forced to look after his 11 year old nephew on the day he was planning to kill himself.

Not acting ATV Today TV Critic Queenie says, “Thank goodness someone is trying to put something hilarious back on telly. We’ve missed regular amusement ever since Christine Bleakley’s tan vanished from regular programming.”

4Funnies replaces the Comedy Showcase strand.
