Korean Pop Superstar given Guinness World Record

Guinness World Records, the official authority on record-breaking achievement, today awarded South Korean superstar, Psy, a World Record certificate in London.
Psy received the prestigious award thanks to his song and video Gangnam Style becoming the most ‘liked’ video in YouTube history.
During an interview with Scott Mills (pictured with the sensation above), who championed the single, at BBC Radio One the performer was given his surprise certificate,

Psy said, “I’m honoured. This is the first certificate I’ve ever had… I didn’t get one at school”.

The online sensation has only been available to view since the 15th of July but as of today has been ‘liked’ 4,911,081 times. The figure puts its competitors in the shade; LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem has accumulated 1,574,963 likes, Justin’s Bieber’s Baby (1,327,147 likes) and British pop star Adele’s Rolling in the Deep (1,245,641 likes).

“I think Psy looked touched to receive his certificate, he even asked if he could keep it! We’re pleased to present his official certificate to such a global phenomenon. Gangnam Style is an infectious, joyous song that has brought a smile to the faces of a tenth of the world’s population, and the result is that it’s the most liked video of any kind in the history of YouTube!” Adds Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, Craig Glenday, who presented the certificate at the radio studio.

PSY – real name: Park Jae-Sang – is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and performer. Gangnam Style, his most successful single to date, is the most viewed K-Pop video on the video hosting website, and marks the first time a South Korean artist has topped the iTunes charts.
