Children In Need raises over 25 Million

The annual event by the BBC raised £26,757,446 in its 33rd television telethon.

“Thank you for a wonderful total and all you have done for children in need.” said Sir Terry Wogan a president of the organisation and host of the show.

Wogan was joined by Tess Daly, Fearne Cotton and Nick Grimshaw to present the seven-hour entertainment marathon live across BBC One and BBC Two from London’s BBC Television Centre
Celebrities giving their time to the event included Girls Aloud, One Direction, Little Mix, Paloma Faith, Leona Lewis, Stooshe, Susan Boyle, Example, Ellie Goulding and Charlotte Church.

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need added, “Tonight’s total is phenomenal. It is amazing that people across the UK have once again come together to raise such a massive sum. Thank you so much for helping to change thousands of young lives across the UK.”

The event had been dubbed by some online as ‘Children In Need of protecting while on BBC Premises’ due to the Jimmy Savile scandal, however the child abuse claims, some of which are alleged to have taken place on beeb premises, failed to taint the charity event’s fundraising night.
The ‘scandal’ had continued to effect BBC broadcasting earlier in the week as a Top of the Pops hosted by Dave Lee Travis was pulled and replaced with a different edition after the former BBC Radio 1 DJ was questioned about offenses while at the corporation. DLT who currently works for Magic AM radio stressed that the accusations concerning him do not relate to children. Magic have suspended the DJ.
