Sky to look back at The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Year
This Christmas, Sky 1 and Sky News will look back at the events of a special royal year in Our Diamond Queen. The documentary is a special co-production presented by Sky News’ Royal Commentator Alastair Bruce OBE.
The hour-long programme celebrates a year in which the nation joined together to mark HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Led by a heartfelt tribute from HRH The Prince of Wales to his mother, the public showed an outpouring of affection for our Monarch. The documentary will re-visit the highlights of the celebratory summer weekend: the Thames Jubilee Pageant, the concert at Buckingham Palace and the procession from St Paul’s Cathedral.
The Jubilee poignantly marked the transition to the next generation when a memorable scene on the balcony of Buckingham Palace showed the present and future Monarchs lined up together – The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Cambridge. Alastair looks ahead to what we can expect and what role modern monarchy will play in the future.
“Throughout 2012, members of the Royal Family travelled far and wide around the world to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with the Commonwealth countries. Our Diamond Queen takes a look at the highlights from the tours, including Prince Harry’s visit to the Caribbean, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s tour of Malaysia, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu and The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’ recent visit to Australia and New Zealand.” A Sky 1 statement says.
Alongside Alastair Bruce, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Boris Johnson, Julian Fellowes, Gary Barlow, The Queen’s racing manager, John Warren and Countess Mountbatten, a former lady-in-waiting to The Queen give their view on the year past for the royal family.
Our Diamond Queen airs on Sunday 16th December on Sky 1 and on Christmas Day on Sky News.
