Funeral details for Coronation Street’s Bill Tarmey released
The funeral of actor and singer Bill Tarmey is to take place tomorrow near Manchester.
Tarmey, best known for his role as Jack Duckworth in ITV’s soap opera Coronation Street between 1979 and 2010, died earlier this month in Tenerife at the age of 71.
The actor quit his role as Jack two years ago in order to spend more time with his family in particular his son Carl who had been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Viewers saw Jack pass away peacefully in his sleep, while Jack’s wife Vera made a special one-off appearance for the episode, having left the soap in 2008.
ITV Granada have announced that the funeral of the actor will take place tomorrow – Tuesday the 27th of November – at the Albion United Reform Church, Stamford Street East Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.
For fans of the soap legend the service will be relayed in audio across speakers outside the church. The ceremony begins at 1pm.
Speaking on November 9th, on-screen wife Liz Dawn (pictured with Bill above) who played Vera said, “Bill was part of my family. When you work with someone for so long, as we did, it becomes more than just work.
“Our families were close and I am devastated for [wife] Ali and his family. I am totally bereft. He will always be remembered by everyone he came into contact with because he was such a kind and generous man. You couldn’t wish to meet a more lovely man and a true gentleman. He was a gentle giant and I will miss him so much.”
GOD BLESS YOU BILL I AM SURE YOU ARE UP THERE WITH ALL YOUR WONDERFUL PAST MATES FROM CORONATION STREET WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY AND YOU WILL ALL ALWAYS REMAIN IN ALL OUR HEARTS FOREVER. KEITH
