ATV Choice: I’m A Celebrity… Coming Out!
No its not a selection of closet star homosexuals and lesbians unleashing their sexual preferences to the world via telly, its the retrospective of this years’ highly successful run of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity jungle reality series.
ITV cameras were on hand to capture the unique moments after the main series ended as the celebrities were reunited with their loved ones and settled back into their usual routines.
Friends and Family of the stars started to arrive in Australia in preparation for them greeting their loved ones as they were voted out of the jungle.
Hugo’s girlfriend Natalie Joel said “I think it’s quite courageous for a guy to cry on TV. Good for him for crying and being human” as she talked about Hugo crying in the Bush Telegraph at the beginning of the series.
And boxer David Hayes mum Jane said “It’s funny seeing him in the shower because it’s just like he was like when he was a baby, this little bottom.”
But causing the most attention was the arrival of MP Nadine Dorries’ partner Christopher Hammond who was met by reporters and photographers as he landed at Brisbane International Airport on Australia’s Gold Coast. Referring to the story that had broken around Nadine appearing on the show, he said: “I think a lot of the attention and judgemental comments are a little unfair. I think a lot of people don’t have time for politicians or politics at the end of the day but perhaps they will have now which will be great.”
Nadine was the first celebrity to be voted out of the 2012 jungle and said “The public hate politicians and I don’t have a fan base. I don’t have a Dr Who fan base; an EastEnders fan base; a Corrie fan base. I don’t have any of that but it was an amazing experience. I’d do it again. Well no, obviously I won’t but . . .”
“There’s probably about 2000 emails and phone calls so its back to work really” she said to Chris as he told her that she had been in the newspapers every day since she went away.
Later she asked “Has Cameron made any comment?” “No, he’s been very hands off and took a back seat” Chris replied. Nadine was pleased that London Mayor Boris Johnson had been “supportive”.
“I should imagine the PM did watch the show, probably for the first time” she said and added “They can throw as much mud as they want in my path.”
Nadine walked into her suite in the Versace Hotel on the Gold Coast and said “Oh wow, somewhere to work.”
There were newspapers on a table in the room, including an Australian one which featured her on its cover. “It’s like another country’s newspapers and I’m on the front page. That’s just beyond belief.”
Later, Limahl bumped into Ant and Dec and sang a special Ant and Dec version of his hit, Never Ending Story. “That’s made my life,” said Dec.
Actress Linda Robson was next to leave. She was concerned that her baby grand daughter Lila wasn’t able to come to the set to welcome her home. But she wasted no time getting reacquainted with the baby and resuming her role as Grandma Linda when she returned to her hotel.
Colin Baker was the fourth celebrity to be voted off. He revealed to his wife that he had lost 12 kilos in the jungle.
Next to leave was ex Corrie actress Helen Flanagan. Helen became notorious as the celebrity who was voted to do the most amount of Bush Tucker Trials this series with a grand total of seven.
Leaving the jungle she hugged her mother Paula and said “It was so hard. It was awful. It’s just such a relief to see my mum and dad. It’s just overwhelming you know.”
Later she said, “I think I quite liked my simple jungle life. I didn’t have to worry about anything. I got woken up, got my food delivered to me. It was very simple. It was very stress free.”
Back at the hotel, Helen read some of the press cuttings that had been written about her. “Oh my God, that’s hilarious, so ridiculous, so funny” she said.
She turned to one that said that she was the ‘most hated celebrity’ and said “Gosh, really? That’s a bit harsh. Why? …I just don’t want people to know that they’ve upset my mum” she explained.
“I think they should know. People should know that these things hurt families,” added her mum.
Hugo Taylor was the next celebrity to be voted off. Being greeted by his girlfriend Natalie Joel, he said “Oh my God, I missed you so much. You have no idea. Oh my God, I’m so glad to be out of there” as they passionately embraced.
He saw Rosemary as he left the studio who told him “Well done. Are you going to be a little nicer now you’re out of the jungle? Are you going to be a little nicer, yes?” She added, “You were hard work.”
Hugo said “I’m going to buy you a drink later. I’m going to get you drunk and we’re going to party.”
Back at the Versace Hotel, Limahl had an old score to settle. “I discovered after I got voted off the show Hugo said to all the other campmates ‘well it’s no skin off my nose that Limahl’s been voted off’ which really surprised me.”
He continued “I would like to write a song to Hugo. But I’ve only got the first line. It’s ‘Hugo’s been voted off, it’s no skin off my nose’ . . . I’m still working on it.”
Meeting Hugo in the lobby, Limahl said, “I’m hurt to the core” “I’m sorry,” replied Hugo.
Limahl told him “I’ve just tweeted ‘no skin off my nose, but Hugo’s been voted off I’m A Celebrity’. It’s been retweeted a lot.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. It just came out” said Hugo.
On his way to his room, he said “God that was awkward with Limahl. He didn’t waste any time bringing that one up did he? Sort of intense. Do you think he’s really upset?”
Limahl added “I think Hugo is going to have a wake up call but what’s he’s going to do is buffer it by living in Chelsea because Chelsea is not the real world.”
Back in London, Nadine had returned. “I had a meeting with the Chief Whip this morning” she said. “My Whip’s been suspended and we have another meeting next week.”
“I just need to take the temperature of my local party and my colleagues which actually has been very positive…. So there are people who try and cause mischief, but there are other people who are being very supportive too.”
Eric Bristow was the next celebrity to be voted off. He saw Hugo as he left the studio and asked him what he’d eaten since leaving and whether it had disagreed with him. “I’m still not going to talk about my bowels with you” said Hugo.
While most celebrities head for breakfast having left the jungle, Eric said “I’m going to go downtown, go to loads of pubs and we’re going to go shopping” and got into his car. Feeling sick in the car, he had to pull over and take in some fresh air.
Arriving at the hotel, his stomach started rumbling. “It’s my own fault for eating a very hot chilli last night raw.”
Next to leave the jungle is David, David hadn’t seen his parents for weeks and he couldn’t wait to have a good chat…. with someone else on his mum’s mobile. David calls a friend to get the results from some fights. His mum says “He’ll be pre-occupied for a few hours but then we’ll have him back.” David hangs up and hands the phone back to his mum saying, “You’ll have a horrendous phone bill when you get back.”
Charlie is announced Queen of the jungle and reunited with her family whilst Ashley says, “I’m just going to enjoy being outside and I want to feel pretty, I wanna take a shower, I wanna blow dry my hair, I wanna put on something sassy and I wanna feel good!”
En-route back to the hotel Charlie says on the fact that she had the biggest family out in Australia supporting her “We’re the Brooks family, we don’t do anything by halves, it’s all about family and friends in our world, I’m thrilled that everyone’s here, I’m so happy”, whilst saying this she turns to Kiki and kisses her and says “I’ve missed you so so much, you know I did.”
An emotional Ashley speaks to her Mum on the phone and she tells her that she has managed to watch every episode since she’s been in the jungle and Ashley’s says “It has been such a crazy experience you cannot even imagine’ and her Mum says “You have an entire country that has fallen in love with you.”
Back at the hotel crowds have been gathering all afternoon and takes Charlie by surprise, stating, “Oh, that was a complete surprise, I had no idea, it all feels really mental.”
With a busy afternoon ahead of them the celebrities made the most of their new found freedom, we see Rosemary hanging out with some kangaroos, Colin gets a massage, Helen gets a spray tan and we see them getting ready for the social engagement of the year… the I’m A Celebrity wrap party.
I’m A Celebrity… Coming Out! Airs on ITV1, STV and UTV tonight at 8pm.
