Penny Smith joins local BBC radio

Former GMTV Newsreader and presenter Penny Smith is to co-host BBC London 94.9 FM’s breakfast show alongside Paul Ross.
‘With years of experience both on radio and TV, Penny will bring the latest news and interviews with people behind the headlines to Londoners starting on 2 January 2013.’ The BBC state.

Smith who will join the station as Gaby Roslin leaves the morning show, says: “I am thrilled to be working at BBC London 94.9. As one of the few people I know who genuinely loves to get up at 4am, I also couldn’t have asked for a better show!”

The station has also announced that, following Danny Baker’s departure from the station, Jo Good moves permanently to the weekday mid-afternoon programme from 3-5pm. Jo has been covering this slot since the end of November, she also previously co-hosted the breakfast programme alongside Ross before hosting her own Late Show (10pm-1am) which will now be taken over by Simon Lederman Monday to Thursday while Nikki Bedi becomes the voice of late night London from Friday to Sunday.
Penny Smith presented on ITV Breakfast’s GMTV from 1993 until 2010, she also co-hosted afternoon series 3@Three for the broadcaster. Other TV work has included presenting for Sky News, Border Television, Channel 5 and Thames News.
She began her career as a reporter and feature writer on the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
