Sky celebrate Comedy Award Wins

Sky AtlanticThe audience may not have been laughing at the gags in last nights Comedy Award gong show, but the Sky comedy department left the event with plenty to smile about.
Hunderby picked up two awards for Sky Atlantic. Devised by Julia Davis the show has become a one of the channels most critically acclaimed comedies. The series took away Best New Comedy Programme and Best Sitcom categories.

“Hunderby has been a huge passion project of mine for many years and I’m so amazed and proud to have won two awards when up against such other brilliant shows; it’s a real honour. I was so dazed to win it left me a bit speechless but want to say a massive thank you to the incredible cast and crew, to Barunka and to the hugely talented people at Sky Atlantic and Baby Cow for believing in it and making it happen” said Julia Davis.

Hunderby premiered in August this year with The Guardian noting that it “isn’t quite like anything else on television… original, bold and brilliant” and The Times finding it “intelligent and beautifully made”.

“There are some shows which you know from the start are going to be very, very special. Hunderby was one of those for me, so I’m thrilled that Julia’s phenomenal talent has been recognised at the British Comedy Awards.” Adds Sky’s Head of Comedy, Lucy Lumsden.

In addition to Hunderby’s double win, other Sky nominations included Sky Atlantic’s new era of Alan Partridge which was nominated for Best New Comedy Programme and also Best TV Comedy Actor for the show’s star Steve Coogan. Sky 1’s Moone Boy was also nominated for Best New Comedy Programme as well as attracting a nomination for Best Comedy Breakthrough Artist for newcomer David Rawle.
