EastEnders: Derek Branning revealed as Kat’s secret lover

EastEnders fans finally discovered the identity of Kat Moon’s secret lover in tonight’s dramatic instalment of the soap.

Bad boy Derek Branning was revealed to be the man Kat had been seeing behind husband Alfie’s back.

Viewers have recently seen Alfie’s (Shane Richie) suspicions grow that Kat (Jessie Wallace) may still be cheating on him and tonight’s episode saw Alfie follow Kat to the bedsit on George Street where he confronted his wife over her infidelity. Although Kat remained tight-lipped about the identity of her lover, Alfie learnt that it was one of the Branning brothers after finding a tenancy agreement addressed to ‘Mr Branning’.

The action swiftly moved to the Queen Vic where Alfie furiously confronted all three Branning brothers before coming to the conclusion that Max is the guilty one. As Alfie flew at Max in a rage, Kat desperately tried to part the pair before blurting out the true identity of her lover – “It’s him – it’s Derek!”

The Kat Moon affair storyline began in July with the show initially lining up five potential suspects for the storyline. As well as the Branning brothers, Ray Dixon and Michael Moon were also in the frame but were ruled out prior to tonight’s conclusion.

Alfie first discovered Kat’s infidelity in September after she admitted the truth to him but held back the identity of her secret lover. Although the pair tried to make a go of their marriage, Alfie’s suspicions resurfaced as Kat continued to receive gifts and messages from her lover.
